Tripp came to us as an 11 week old puppy and unbeknownst to us, he also came with a little bit of karmic baggage. As he grew, his fear and anxiety became more pronounced culminating in his aggression towards a family friend when he was just 8 months old, though I knew what triggered his reaction it still frightened me. A pup that reacts in this manner is not something I've had experience with in my long history of dog experience.
Immediately following the incident I got in contact with a trusted positive reinforcement trainer and though the training proved to have some benefit most days Tripp struggled in class, the pressure of all the people and dogs, inside a building was more than he could handle and a large percent of the class time was spent in the parking lot helping him work through what he was feeling.
One day while out on a hike, in a location we hadn't initially planned on going, we ran into Sherri - completely by chance. We chatted in the parking lot and Tripp reacted in a way that had become the norm for him, barking, jumping up, tugging on the leash, biting at my jacket, twisting and spinning and generally not knowing what to do with himself. It was at that point that Sherri gave a little insight into what it is that she does and that she felt that she may be able to help Tripp.
We emailed back and forth and set a suitable time for her to connect with Tripp remotely. Immediately following that first session we started to notice changes in Tripp, best described by him being visibly less stressed in once stressful situations and much better able to cope in a more productive and acceptable manner. About 6 weeks after his first session we arranged to have another to address a few remaining areas of stress. Results after the second session have been remarkable! I feel like Tripp has become a much happier dog and actually knows when he handles things correctly and is proud. He previously had a very difficult time when someone ran past him, children, joggers, etc and he also had a problem with dogs that were excitable or running but now he can calmly be passed by a person running with a dog! And just tonight we had a situation at the park where a very small child wanted to pet the dogs and was running full on towards him, I was easily able to redirect him from the child and take him a few feet away where he calmly sat while our other pup, Lilly, entertained the child. I feel all of these successes are a direct result of the areas that Sherri has addressed with him. I am grateful for our chance meeting and for being willing to take a chance on an alternative therapy for Tripp.
